Giant Revel 3, Front Suspension Bike, 2012 Giant's Revel range bridges the gap between low budget runaround and trail-ready off-roader. Very similar to the highly popular Boulder model it replaces, but using Giant's latest upgrade in aluminium technology, the Revels are a great intro to mountain biking and will withstand the rigours off real off-road use in an overall all-rounder type of setup that remains comfortable for more leisurely jaunts around town or along lighter trails and towpaths. As with all their bikes, Giant product several versoins of the Revel to suit differing budgets. They all use the same lightweight AlluxX aluminium frame, but have different components to offer the option to balance price and perfomance. The Revel 3 keeps the final price nice and low by using standard components from Shimano and Tektro along with a set of Suntour M2025 forks, all of which are chosen for low maintenance durability and reliability. You could spend a bit more and go for one of the higher spec Revels, in which case you'll get slightly lighter weight wheels and gears and a bit more suspension travel in the forks, but for a great value intro to mountain biking the Revel 3 gives you everything you need, with the option to upgrade components later if you really want to.
